Just A Small Correction

Just A Small Correction

Several people I admire and respect pointed out to me that in my Alec Baldwin post, I drew a parallel between his behavior and my own abuse when I was a child.  When I write about my own childhood, things become so confusing to me that I'm never sure  I'm writing in a rational way.  That's true every single time I talk about, think about it or write about. I don't think I realized I was making that analogy.

I think on some level making the comparison between the Baldwin tape and my own life was just one more way that I minimize what happened to my childhood.  I keep forgetting that others haven't had similarly disastrous childhoods.  Physical abuse was the most "normal" thing that ever happened to me.

Thank you to everyone who reminded me of how bad it was.

Thank YOU for getting through it and daring to open yourself... your life, in all its horrible intensity, to the world.

Girl what was the problem of you comparing his behavior with your abuse, What Alec did was verbal abuse and you suffered both at the hands of your father. Verbal abuse can be just as damaging. I applaud you for being able to write about it and hope that it works as a catharsis for you and help you to forget the pain that you went through and put it behind you to never remember again.((hugs}}

The fact that you can even talk about your childhood is a testament to your resolve and character.

I drew parallels to some of the messages my Dad gave me growing up, and Baldwin's rant sounded familiar to me.

That poor girl, don't care what she might have done to set Dad off, he's got no right to hurl that bile at her .
Young girls take their cue from Dad about men for the rest of their lives.
I am so lucky Tom was nothing like my Dad.
Actors are not known to be the most stable lot, and I think the Baldwins have family issues as I remember.
All this in public is pretty harsh.
I hope Alec realizes what his words do and takes the initiative to better his parenting skills.
I hope he get s the chance.
My Dad makes an effort to be supportive of me even today ( he's very complicated) , but with him --criticism is always first.
